Coming off its first national championship, Virginia is losing star guard Ty Jerome, who declared for the NBA Draft today. They might be gaining a pair of stellar replacements though.
Earlier today, Marquette forwards Joey and Sam Hauser announced they were both transferring. This is major news, as the Hauser brothers were Marquette’s second and third-leading scorers this past season. With point guard Markus Howard returning to school, they could have been a part of a preseason top-10 team.
Instead, they are looking for a new home. Virginia appears to be in good position to land them, according to a new report.
FOX Sports’ John Fanta reports that the Cavaliers are “a potential front-runner” to land the Hausers.
Hearing that Virginia is a potential frontrunner in the race to get the Hauser Brothers. These are a pair of high-level players in the portal.

Sam Hauser was a junior this season, while Joey was a freshman. Sam averaged 14.9 ppg while shooting 40.2 percent from three-point range while Joey averaged 9.7 ppg while hitting 42.5 percent of his three-point attempts.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, Sam can’t be a graduate transfer, meaning both brothers will have to sit out a year at their next stop, unless they obtain an NCAA waiver to play right away.
Just texted a little bit with Sam Hauser. He can’t graduate transfer, meaning he’ll be a sit one, play one.
And to nobody’s surprise, the plan is for him and Joey to go to the same school.

Virginia has been able to reload and keep its program running consistently the last six seasons. Adding the Hauser brothers would certainly help continue that trend.
