The disgraced former Baylor coach was supposed to be headed to Canada.
This morning, the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced that they were tabbing former Baylor head coach Art Briles to be the team's Assistant Head Coach Offence.
The news was widely criticized. Briles had been fired by Baylor in 2015 in the midst of a major sexual assault scandal, and he has been out of work since.
Now, it seems the Tiger-Cats and the CFL decided they would be better off without Briles. The league announced tonight that he will not be joining the Hamilton franchise.
Overall, this is a probably the right move.
Briles is an innovative and successful coach, but the nature of the issues that happened under his watch at Baylor should make him radioactive to other organizations.
