Should this Iowa State fumble have counted?
So close, and yet so far for the Cyclones.
Iowa State nearly became the first team in NCAA history to go the entire season without losing a fumble. The Cyclones lost their first fumble in the final minutes of today’s Liberty Bowl against Memphis.
Check out the play below. It looks like ISU running back David Montgomery broke the plane before losing control.

Happens on a potential game-winning TD as the RB loses the ball across the goal line with just over 4 minutes left to play

This was called a fumble on the field and upheld. He’s clearly in the end zone. Iowa State got hosed. pic.twitter.com/q8SsExkRAB

A brutal way to miss out on making history, but Iowa State got the last laugh. The Cyclones held on and beat Memphis 21-20 to finish the season with an 8-5 record.
