As Kansas prepares for another strong basketball season, the coaching staff has its sights set on four-star recruit Andre Curbelo. The talented guard from Long Island Lutheran High School is starting to gain interest from top programs in college hoops.
Curbelo is the No. 8 point guard and No. 59 overall recruit from his class, per 247Sports. He held 16 offers heading into this week, which includes scholarships from Louisville and West Virginia.
The Jayhawks weren’t originally in the mix for Curbelo, but they have just begun their pursuit for the four-star guard.
Long Island Lutheran High School announced that Curbelo received an offer from Kansas on Tuesday.
It’s possible that Kansas loses Devon Dotson to the 2020 NBA Draft, which magnifies the need for a point guard next year.

According to 247Sports, the four teams high on Curbelo’s list are Illinois, Louisville, St. John’s and West Virginia. Perhaps Kansas will emerge as a contender for his services now that it officially offered him a scholarship.
Kansas doesn’t have any commitments for its 2020 recruiting class, but it’s still pretty early in the process.
With the fall approaching fairly soon, Bill Self and the Jayhawks may want to ramp up their recruiting efforts. Clearly, Curbelo will be one of several recruits that are high on the Big 12 powerhouse’s radar.
