Tuesday afternoon, Kansas scored a big-time get, nabbing five-star power forward Cheick Diallo over Kentucky, Pitt, St. John's and Iowa State. Diallo, at 6-foot-9, 225 pounds, is expected to have an immediate impact for the Jayhawks, and, as many assume, he's a likely candidate for the 2016 NBA Draft. Shortly after the news hit, a former KU star who faced great expectations in his one year on campus reached out to Diallo with support.
Joel Embiid, who played at Kansas for one injury-shortened season, tweeted at Diallo, officially welcoming him to the Kansas family. Check it out:
Embiid, who teamed up with fellow star freshman Andrew Wiggins for just one season in 2013-2014, averaged 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He was forced to miss both the Big 12 Tournament and the NCAA Tournament due to a stress fracture in his back. He was later selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the third overall pick in the NBA Draft.
