Cornerback Ga’Quincy McKinstry is one of the most talented football players in the 2021 class. He’s already drawn comparisons to guys like Marcus Peters by 247Sports’ John Garcia, who projects him as a future first-rounder.
So, would a player like him really commit to play for Les Miles and the moribund Kansas football program? He certainly seems intrigued by the idea.
The secret weapon there is Kansas basketball. McKinstry announced that he’s been offered the chance to play for both Jayhawks teams.
Per NCAA rules, the scholarship would count against the football team’s 85-person limit, but it sounds like Bill Self is on board with taking the talented two-sport athlete.
Five-star Ga’Quincy McKinstry announced his two-sport offer from the Kansas Jayhawks on Wednesday.
McKinstry has offers from many of the top football programs in the country, including the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Michigan. It is unclear if any of those programs would offer him the same opportunity, though the idea isn’t without precedent in college sports.

247Sports‘ Phog.net says that Bill Self has previously expressed interest in taking on two-sport players, especially since it would count against the football team’s scholarship totals. He was not being asked about McKinstry specifically.
The Pinson, Alabama native is ranked No. 21 overall in the 2021 class. He’s the second-ranked cornerback, and the No. 2 player in Alabama in that class cycle.
