Jeff Withey has both praise from his head coach and his name in the record books after his performance against the San Jose Spartans last night. The senior center recorded just the second triple-double in Kansas history. For those of you who were confused by all the number references in that last sentence, here’s the explanation.
Withey reached double digits in three statistical categories; he had 16 points, 12 rebounds, and a Kansas record 12 blocks, according to ESPN. After the game, head coach Bill Self referred to Withey as the only guy on the team who “played worth a flip” after the Spartans almost made a comeback in the 70-57 Jayhawks victory.
Just the second official guy to reach the triple-double mark, Withey joins Cole Aldrich did the same in 2010.
