Looking back, Mark Mangino's tenure at Kansas is even more remarkable than it seemed at the time. Mangino won at least six games five times in his eight year run. In 2007, his team went 12-1, which included an Orange Bowl win, his third bowl victory with the Jayhawks. KU has not won more than three games in a season since his ouster.
Mangino's ouster in Lawrence was for very good reason, as there were serious questions raised about how he was treating his players. With how the program has struggled since he left, however, fans have made noise about bringing him back every time the job opens up. Head coach Charlie Weis was fired this week after a 2-2 start and blowout losses to Duke and Texas, and Mangino's name is out there again. One Kansas fan has even put up campaign signs on his lawn supporting a return for the former KU head coach.

If Bobby Petrino can return to Louisville after the way he left, there seems to be precedent for Kansas bringing back Mangino, if he makes sure to improve on how he treats his players and others within the Kansas community. It still may be too tough of a sell to make it a reality.
