After a frustrating loss to Duke in the Champions Classic to start the season, Kansas has been on a roll these last few weeks. The Jayhawks are currently riding a nine-game winning streak and have vaulted into a three-way tie for first place in the Big 12.
Their recent run of dominance combined has resulted in the Jayhawks returning to the top of the NCAA basketball ranks. But now that they have the top spot, they’ll have to defend it.
The new AP top 25 poll is out and the top six consists mostly of NCAA blue bloods (and the 9-1 Ohio State Buckeyes).
Here’s the full poll, from the Associated Press:
- Ohio State
- Michigan State
- San Diego State
- Penn State
- Texas Tech
- West Virginia
There are a whole bunch of huge games taking place this week.
Kansas heads to Philadelphia to play No. 18 Villanova on Saturday in the Big 12/Big East Challenge. Gonzaga will defend their No. 2 ranking against Roy Williams and the UNC Tar Heels. And of course the No. 5 and No. 6 teams go head-to-head as Kentucky play Ohio State.
It isn’t often that we find out who the contenders and pretenders are before January, but we may get those answers in the waning days of December.
