Former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts made headlines earlier this week when he announced his plans to transfer to Oklahoma to play for the Sooners in 2019. After spending the full 2018 season with the Crimson Tide as a backup, Hurts decided this was the time for him to shine as a starter.
With Kyler Murray off to the NFL or the MLB, the Sooners provided a perfect place for Hurts to transfer to. The Sooners had just one other scholarship quarterback on the roster before the addition of Hurts.
He'll have to battle with five-star recruit Spencer Rattler, who will join the Sooners later, but Hurts projects as the team's starter for the 2019 campaign.
While Alabama fans must be sad to see Hurts go, the football program had a classy message for their former quarterback.
"For every pass, every run, every game winner. Thank you, Jalen," Alabama's football program said on Twitter.
Hurts was pivotal to Alabama's success during the 2018 season. After Tua Tagovailoa went down with an ankle injury in the SEC title game against Georgia, Hurts led the Crimson Tide to a comeback victory and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Now he'll play for the team Alabama beat in the semifinal round of this year's playoff: Oklahoma.
