Baker Mayfield is on his way to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. This will be a big weekend for Mayfield, as many teams will be looking to meet with the Heisman Trophy winner.
The interview portion of the combine will likely be where Mayfield can help himself most. Coaches and executives will want to see how he comports himself in meetings and make sure he's got the necessary temperament and personality to be the face of their franchise.
Mayfield presumably knows how important this all is, which is why he wasted no time trying to make a good impression. As in, he went out of his way to speak with an NFL coach on his flight to Indianapolis.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Mayfield and Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay were on the same flight to Indy. Rapoport also appears to have been on that plane.
Mayfield apparently "hustled" to grab the seat next to McVay.
With the Rams picking later in the first round and already possessing a young quarterback in Jared Goff, they are an unrealistic destination for Mayfield in the draft. However, McVay is an awesome brain to pick for quarterbacking knowledge.
Additionally, it can't hurt to leave a positive mark on an NFL coach in this manner.
The NFL Scouting Comnbine will run from today through Monday in Indianapolis.
