Coaching Baker Mayfield At Senior Bowl Reportedly Didn't Go Smoothly For Broncos Staff

Several teams have been linked to Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield in recent mock drafts. One of those teams is the Denver Broncos.

While Denver still has a long-term need at quarterback despite signing Case Keenum and having Paxton Lynch, one NFL analyst isn't buying the Broncos as a fit for the Heisman Trophy winner.

Sports Illustrated's Andy Benoit "would be shocked" if Denver chose Mayfield.

Benoit reports that things didn't go smoothly for the Broncos staff, which coached Mayfield at the Senior Bowl.

Now, Benoit's phrasing leaves room for a lot of interpretation. Was Mayfield too cocky for the Broncos' liking? Did he butt heads with a staffer? Or did they just not like the way he performed from a football perspective? Maybe they felt there was too much that wouldn't translate to the next level.

Mayfield is a polarizing quarterback for on and off-field reasons. We've heard this said as a reason for some teams potentially shying away from drafting him.

For what it's worth, Mel Kiper has Mayfield going to the Broncos still in his latest mock draft. However, Kiper's inside info could be questionable as well.

We're about a month away from the draft. Hopefully we'll get some answers then.
