Quarterbacks are one of the positions being showcased at the NFL Scouting Combine tonight, and Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts just ran the 40-yard dash.
Hurts was impressive in the event. After running an unofficial 4.64 in his first attempt, Hurts recorded an official 4.54 on his second try.
The was the fastest time for any quarterback. Considering Hurts’ prowess as a runner, it’s not surprising he tested well in the 40.
Him acing this test is the first step in a strong combine performance. The video of Hurts’ official 4.54 can be seen below.

For comparison, here are the official times for a few of the other high-profile quarterbacks who ran. LSU’s Joe Burrow, the projected No. 1 overall pick, and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa (recovering from injury) are not taking part in drills.

Right now, Hurts projects to be selected either late on Day 2 or early on Day 3 of this year’s draft. A team looking to draft a developmental quarterback–or use one in a Taysom Hill role while grooming him to eventually start–should be intrigued by Hurts’ skill set.
The 2020 NFL Scouting Combine runs through Sunday night in Indianapolis.
