Oklahoma lost a top 2019 commit in cornerback Jeffery Carter late Thursday night.

Jeffery Carter is a four-star cornerback from Aledo, Texas. He committed to the Sooners back on July 30.

That was a big day for Lincoln Riley's recruiting efforts. Carter was one of two big-time recruits to commit that night.

He was joined by class of 2020 running back Jase McClellan. McClellan hasn't be evaluated by every website yet, but 247Sports has him as a four-star back.

The two are teammates at Aledo High School. McClellan remains committed to the Sooners, although he has over two years until his National Signing Day.

Carter, however, is opening things back up. His recruitment has been on the rise in recent months.

247 ranks him No. 209 in the nation overall. He is the No. 19-ranked athlete, and No. 26 in Texas.

He announced his decommitment last night. From Twitter:

Some of the experts that log predictions in 247's crystal ball believe that he will wind up with a major Oklahoma rival. Of the three early predictions, two have him ending up at Texas.

Tom Herman and the Longhorns extended a scholarship offer back on January 15. Baylor, Georgia, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Penn State, and Texas Tech are among the other schools to offer Carter.
