Video: Joe Mixon Explodes For 32-Yard Touchdown vs. Houston

Joe Mixon celebrating a touchdown run.

Joe Mixon did not waste much time putting points on the board in Oklahoma's game against Houston.

The Oklahoma Sooners and Houston Cougars just kicked off the biggest game of the Week 1 noon slate, and the Sooners picked up right where they left off with their 2016 Big 12 Championship season.

After a few nice runs by bruiser Samaje Perine, Oklahoma gave explosive speed back Joe Mixon his first touch of the season, and it paid off with a huge 32-yard touchdown run.

The two are quite possibly the best running back duo in college football, and showed why on the first drive.

Watch Mixon explode through the Cougs defense here:

The touchdown gave Oklahoma an early 7-0 lead, but Greg Ward and Houston responded with a scoring drive of their own, settling for a field goal after a 56-yard drive led by running back Duke Catalon, who carried the rock five times for 36 yards.

OU's scoring drive covered 79 yards, with Mixon the big gainer on the touchdown run. Perine rushed three times for 22 yards, while Baker Mayfield went 3-for-3 for 18 yards, and ran for seven of his own.

Last season, as the No. 2 back behind Perine, Mixon ran 113 times for 753 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught 28 passes for 358 yards and four scores.
