Baker Mayfield's Visit With One NFL Team Seemed To Get Awkward

Former Oklahoma star Baker Mayfield, during an interview.

Baker Mayfield is expected to be chosen early in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft on Thursday. The Heisman Trophy winner could go in the first five picks.

Mayfield has visited a large number of franchises during the pre-draft process. Any team that could be in the market for a quarterback at least did their due diligence on the Oklahoma signal caller.

One of Mayfield's visits was to the Denver Broncos. Denver picks fifth on Thursday, and even though the Broncos signed Case Keenum to a two-year deal in free agency, many anticipate John Elway will draft a long-term quarterback solution this year.

Mayfield may be the man Denver chooses. If he is, he'll have to work alongside Keenum while simultaneously being groomed for his job. That's awkward, but maybe not as awkward Mayfield's visit to Denver was.

According to MMQB's Peter King, Mayfield was on his visit with Elway when Keenum walked through the cafe at the team facility.

“The Cardinals don’t like Baker Mayfield. They love him. That’s a good thing, because John Elway likes him a lot too. Interesting strange-bedfellows scene at the Broncos’ cafeteria during Mayfield’s on-campus visit. Elway sat alone at one table with Mayfield, conversing. Walking through the salad bar at the time: Case Keenum.”

If that was uncomfortable for anyone, it might have been Keenum. Still, the veteran knows the business of the NFL.

Wouldn't it be something if he finally proved himself as a starter in Minnesota only to be replaced by Mayfield soon in Denver though?

This year's NFL Draft will be held April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
