The Oklahoma Sooners demolished a depleted Florida team 55-20 in this year’s Cotton Bowl, behind an impressive all-around effort. Quarterback Spencer Rattler led the way, throwing for 247 yards and three touchdowns. The win for Lincoln Riley marked a complete turnaround for the Sooners in 2020, after a shaky start to the tumultuous season.
Meanwhile, the Gators were without numerous key players in the contest. Florida’s head coach Dan Mullen made sure to remind everyone of that fact in the postgame conference following his team’s blowout loss.
“The last game the 2020 team played was 11 days ago,” Mullen said.
Riley caught wind of the harsh comment and was asked his thoughts about it on Friday. The Sooners head coach tempered his response, but clearly seemed bothered by the statement.
“To each his own,” Riley said of Mullen’s comments per Jason Kersey. “I think that’s pretty easy to say after the fact and after what happened. I do have feelings on it, but I just don’t know what I have to gain, really, with sharing those, honestly.”

Riley echoed the sentiment of many other college football fans around the country. Even Florida faithful went on Twitter to express their dismay at Mullen’s comments.
Oklahoma will now carry some momentum into next year after the impressive win. Rattler will return to Norman for another year and Riley should get a chance to build off of the team’s defensive success in the latter half of 2020. Obviously, the Sooners will now set their sights on getting back into the College Football Playoff in 2021.
Florida might’ve missed its best opportunity to make the postseason tournament this year. Star quarterback Kyle Trask declared for the draft, leaving an important position open for the Gators.
Mullen will need to get accustomed to his 2021 team in a hurry if Florida wants to make it back to the SEC Championship.
