It’s not an exaggeration to say that Oklahoma’s season hangs in the balance this weekend against Iowa State. Another loss would essentially eliminate the Sooners from playoff contention.
Oklahoma is coming off an upset loss to Kansas State, in which the defense surrendered 48 points. Maybe the bye week gave Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch enough time to get that unit ready for Iowa State.
Matt Campbell is having another strong season as the head coach of the Cyclones. He’s already a hot commodity on the coaching market, but a win over the Sooners would dramatically increase his stock even further.
This game could very well come down to which quarterback makes more explosive plays. Jalen Hurts and Brock Purdy are having strong campaigns for their respective teams.
Hurts remains firmly in the mix for the Heisman Trophy this season, but don’t dismiss Purdy. The sophomore quarterback has 2,567 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions thus far.
