Texas Football: Report: Du'Vonta Lampkin Awaiting NCAA Appeal For Release From Texas

Texas defensive tackle signee Du'Vonta Lampkin is awaiting an NCAA appeal regarding the release from his NLI, and is not pursuing enrollment at Texas, according to a report from Horns247.

Lampkin, who submitted his appeal to the NCAA on Monday, said Texas will have five to 10 days to enter its own appeal in the case.

“I put in my appeal,” Lampkin said. After UT puts their argument in, the NCAA is the one that’s going to decide if I’m going to get released or not.”

The University could not be reached immediately for comment for this story.

Lampkin signed with the Longhorns in February before revealing in May he would be unable to enroll due to a missing requirement. A one-time Oklahoma commit, the Sooners are the rumored destination for Lampkin, but he can't matriculate anywhere until this matter is resolved.

A four-star prospect out of Houston (Tex.) Cypress Hills, Lumpkin was the 23rd-rated defensive tackle in the 2015 class according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings
