Nike Unveils Awesome Oklahoma State-Themed Barry Sanders Football Training Shoe

It's been 26 years since Barry Sanders took the college football world by storm, shattering virtually every record for a running back in the history books. Sanders, who in 1988 was a junior at Oklahoma State, had undoubtedly the greatest season the sport has ever seen, rushing for 2,628 yards and 37 touchdowns in just 11 regular season games, claiming the Heisman Trophy for his efforts. Next week, Nike, which also sponsors the Cowboys' football uniforms, is set to unveil a training shoe dedicated to what it also calls "the best season ever".

The shoe will feature Oklahoma State's color scheme, along with his number "21" on the side. Here's a bit more about the Air Trainer 2, which will be released on July 26th.

Designed to honor the “greatest season ever played,” the latest Air Trainer 2 pays homage to legendary running back Barry Sanders’ award-winning season in 1988. The shoe features orange and black nubuck, as a nod to his alma mater’s rich heritage. Aesthetically, safari appropriately ties together the black and orange colorway finished off with a black reflective swoosh. The gridiron was his kingdom – and for years, the pride of Stillwater reigned supreme.

Here's another shot from Nike.com.

Sanders went on to have a successful NFL career with the Detroit Lions before retiring earlier than many expected. It's hard to see any one player ever being this dominant again. Oklahoma State fans will probably be flocking to pick these up.
