It has been a record breaking day in college football already. Earlier, Alabama's Derrick Henry broke Herschel Walker's SEC record for single season rushing yards. Now, another back that will be at the Heisman ceremony in New York has topped a legendary NCAA record. Stanford's do-it-all superstar Christian McCaffrey broke Barry Sanders' season total yardage record, with 3,254 yards (and counting) on the season.

Many will point to Barry Sanders' record as being untouchable because it came in just 11 games. However, as former Grantland college football writer Matt Hinton points out, McCaffrey broke the record with fewer touches than Sanders received.

It should be noted that McCaffrey has nearly 1,000 yards on kick and punt returns, while Sanders only had 515 in 1988, according to Sports Reference. Either way, there's no doubt that Sanders had an all-time great season, and McCaffrey's 2015 stacks up pretty well.
