Former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was one of the best signal callers in recent college football history during his Sooners career. Lincoln Riley shouldn’t have trouble attracting other quarterbacks, and in 2019 commit Spencer Rattler, they have the top guy in the class coming in next year.
Rattler has been committed to the Sooners since last June. It doesn’t seem like he’s wavering from that choice, with his profile continuing to rise.
After many of the top players competed at The Opening finals, 247Sports has updated its rankings. That is big news for Rattler.
He was already the top-ranked quarterback in the class. Now he has received his fifth star.

Spencer Rattler should continue what can become a strong line of Oklahoma QBs.
Mayfield solidified the position after his transfer from Texas Tech. This season, Kyler Murray is expected to have a big season before he turns his attention to baseball full-time.
Austin Kendall will also contend for the job after this season, if he cannot beat out Murray, the expected starter, this season. He is a former four-star recruit as well.
247Sports’ composite rankings have Kendall as the No. 26 player in the country overall, and No. 1 at his position and in Arizona. Last month, the site’s Greg Biggins wrote that he was the most impressive passer at the Elite 11 Finals:
Three quarterbacks separated themselves by consistently being in the top group of signal callers and Rattler was the most dynamic for us. He’s a play maker who has the ability to beat a defense with his arm or his legs and has a presence about him that should make him a natural leader in college.
Like Mayfield, Rattler is a confident player, who says he can make all the throws. As long as Riley is there, the Sooners offensive should keep humming.
