Big 12 standings have been an adventure over the last few years, especially at the top of the league. Last year, Oklahoma broke through to take home the league crown and head to the College Football Playoff.
In the previous years, we’ve seen Baylor edge out TCU with a head-to-head tiebreaker to take home the second of back-to-back conference titles in 2013 and 2014, while Oklahoma State and Kansas State won the league in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
The only real consistency in the Big 12 is the lack of Texas at the top. The Longhorns are thought of as the league’s most influential program, but have not won a football title since 2009.
FOX Sports’ Stewart Mandel has been making his preseason predictions for each college football power conference. On Monday he mapped out the SEC. Today, he turned his attention to the Big 12. Texas fans should actually be fairly happy with his prediction for the Longhorns, but once again, he has them out of the top spot in Charlie Strong’s third year. His choice for Big 12 Champion is fairly surprising, however.
