TCU Gives Gary Patterson New Deal, Extends His Contract 'Through The Decade'

TCU's Gary Patterson had one of his best seasons as head coach, elevating a Horned Frogs team that went 4-8 in 2013 to the doorstep of the College Football Playoff this season. As a reward, and to try to ensure that he won't jump ship to a bigger program, TCU has extended Patterson. While the school hasn't disclosed the specifics of the deal, Patterson will be under contract "through the decade" according to athletic director Chris Del Conte.

In 2011, TCU gave Patterson an extension through 2018 which was worth upwards of $3 million a year, according to an ESPN Dallas report. Patterson has likely had plenty of opportunities to move on, but with 16 years at TCU, 14 as head coach, under his belt, he may just be a lifer in Fort Worth.
