There has been so much hype surrounding Arch Manning for the past few years, and for good reason. So, naturally, fans expected him to make an immediate impact at Texas.
However, Manning hasn't played a single snap for the Longhorns this season. Quinn Ewers has been the unquestioned starter when healthy. He missed the past few games due to a shoulder injury, but was replaced by Maalik Murphy.
Manning's grandfather, former NFL quarterback Archie Manning, talked about his lack of playing time in a wide-ranging interview with The Spun.
Archie made it abundantly clear that his grandson doesn't regret committing to Texas.
"Arch is happy with the decision he made," Manning told The Spun. "All the reports we get is that he’s doing well. He’s going to get a redshirt out of this year, and I think that’s important."
Texas fans have to be relieved hearing that Arch is pleased with his decision.
Archie Manning also stressed the importance of working your way up the ladder, especially when making the jump from high school to college.
"Every situation is different. If you remember, Peyton and Eli went to school early for spring training. Peyton got thrown in for his first game as a freshman. He played a great deal that season. Tennessee had a great offensive line and two really good running backs, so that allowed him to work into it," Manning explained. "Eli had what I think is the best course. He redshirt his first year, was a backup in his second year, and then started in his third year. I think it’s a big jump. Arch played 2A Football, as did Peyton and Eli. Every situation is different."
It's possible we'll see Arch leading the Longhorns next season. For now, he's getting used to the speed of the game.
