While the Texas Longhorns have certainly had a strong season in 2018, there is concern surrounding the health of Sam Ehlinger. Throughout the year, the dual-threat quarterback has dealt with a lingering shoulder injury.
Last weekend, Ehlinger couldn't even play the entire game, as Shane Buechele completed 10 passes against Iowa State. However, he did have eight carries for 32 rushing yards and a touchdown in the win.
The Longhorns run their offense through their physical quarterback, and although they'd like to have him playing without restrictions, they understand the importance of monitoring his situation.
On Friday, Texas will play Kansas to finish its regular season. While the Longhorns should defeat the Jayhawks, the status of Ehlinger is still unknown.
Tom Herman and his coaching staff appear to be cautious with Ehlinger's shoulder, as they limit his volume of throws in practice.
Ehlinger is having an amazing season, which features 2,620 passing yards and 31 total touchdowns. His ability to make game-changing plays without turning over the ball is crucial for the Longhorns.
It's very possible that Herman runs his offense similar to last weekend, splitting the playing time between two quarterbacks.
With only two more days before this matchup takes place, all eyes will be on Ehlinger's availability.
