Jon Gruden has been linked to the Texas job.
Charlie Strong has not been fired as the head coach of Texas, but his future is certainly in jeopardy. With that being said, rumors have been circulating for months on who may become the next head football coach for the Longhorns and now you can throw Jon Gruden's name into the bunch.
Clay Travis of Fox Sports shared that Gruden's name is in the mix if Tom Herman, Houston's head coach, doesn't take the job:
Gruden has not coached football since 2008 when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 53-year-old has been linked to possible coaching jobs for years now including the Tennessee job before the Vols hired Butch Jones back in December of 2012.
Gruden has been a voice on ESPN's Monday Night Football for years now and it would be an interesting move for him to leave the booth and head for the sideline down in Austin.
Sources yesterday indicated that Herman is very close to being hired as LSU's head coach. Ed Orgeron led the Tigers to a 54-39 win at Texas A&M on Thursday night which could possibly sway LSU's decision on letting Orgeron go, but that is unclear at the moment.
