The biggest game this weekend in college football has to be this year’s Red River Showdown between the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns.
Oklahoma is coming off another dominant victory this season, meanwhile Texas needed a strong fourth quarter to defeat West Virginia on the road.
This is the second test for the Longhorns this season. Earlier in the year, Tom Herman’s squad battled the LSU Tigers in a tough non-conference matchup.
Although the early edge is with the Sooners, the Longhorns have an offense capable of keeping pace with Lincoln Riley’s group. Sam Ehlinger is in the midst of another incredible season at quarterback.
Kirk Herbstreit previewed this upcoming showdown between Oklahoma and Texas on his podcast.
Herbstreit is concerned that Texas won’t be able to stop Oklahoma’s offense. He believes the team’s secondary is going to struggle due to their lack of depth.
“I don’t think (the Texas secondary is up for the challenge against Oklahoma’s offense),” Herbstreit said. “I don’t think they are. They’ve struggled and they’ve had so many injuries, and we’ll have to see. as the week progresses, how healthy they are and whether or not they’re able to get some people back.”
To be fair, Herbstreit also stated that Oklahoma will have trouble keeping Texas out of the end zone.
It’s highly likely that the Sooners and Longhorns get into a shootout this weekend.
