The Texas quarterback room took a significant hit earlier this week, though the move was expected. The program confirmed that junior Shane Buechele entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal and is considering a transfer from the Longhorns - SMU has been named as a possible destination.

But that's not all. Fellow former four-star Cameron Rising has also left the program. Earlier this week, Rising took to Twitter to announce his transfer to Utah.

The hits kept coming for the Longhorns after Casey Thompson, another freshman four-star QB, reportedly also placed his name in the portal.

A report earlier this week from 247Sports' Chip Brown claimed Thompson eventually removed his name from the portal and planned to return to Texas. However, Thompson addressed the report on Twitter say he hasn't made up his mind yet.

Two days later, another report, this time from Texas reporter Anwar Richardson, suggests Thompson will return to Texas.

If the news is true, this is a huge break for the Longhorns, who would have been left with just Sam Ehlinger and incoming freshman Roschon Johnson in their quarterback room.

Now, Texas will have some added depth at the position heading into the 2019 season after a successful 2018 campaign.
