Report: Texas Basketball Lands 4-Star Center James Banks

Update: Banks just took to Twitter to make the announcement himself.

Earlier: When Shaka Smart took the job at Texas, college basketball fans were excited to see what he could do with blue chip talent. This morning, the Longhorns added another big time player to Smart's future rosters. 6-foot-10 center James Banks, a four-star player out of La Lumiere School in Indiana, has reportedly committed to Texas.

Scout has more from Banks on his decision.

“After and during the recruiting process you realize and learn what is real and what is fake,” Banks said. “I really was able to establish a great relationship with coach Smart and coach [Mike] Morrell at Texas. They had a legitimate desire to coach me, get me better, develop me and help me become the best person and player I could be.”

Banks chose Texas over Vanderbilt, and also holds offers from Illinois, Notre Dame, Purdue, and others. 247Sports' composite rankings have him ranked No. 56 overall in the class of 2016, and No. 5 among centers.
