Sam Ehlinger was already earning praise from Texas fans during the Longhorns' regular season, but his production in the Sugar Bowl helped him get noticed by one of the most prolific passers of all-time in Drew Brees.
The Sugar Bowl took place in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which gave Brees the opportunity to watch Texas battle Georgia. Although the Longhorns played outstanding in all three phases, the future Hall of Fame quarterback couldn't help but talk about Ehlinger and his toughness.
The Longhorns' quarterback finished with 169 passing yards, 64 rushing yards and three total touchdowns against the Bulldogs.
Despite the fact that Ehlinger isn't a traditional quarterback like Brees, the Saints legend left the game very impressed with his ability to play well in huge moments.
"He’s a stud; he’s a tough guy," Brees said."Man, he played big, his team played great. His future is very bright.”
Brees also revealed that he's known Ehlinger since the young gunslinger was in middle school.

Ehlinger and Brees attended Westlake High School in Austin, which is the reason behind the Texas quarterback's pregame jersey.
It'll be interesting to see how Ehlinger improves entering his junior season. With expectations rising in Austin, he'll have to be even better in 2019.
