Texas is coming off its first 10-win season in nearly a decade. Year Two of the Tom Herman Era featured some noteworthy moments.
The Longhorns beat Oklahoma during the regular season, played in the Big 12 title game and took down Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Overall, the team left fans with hope that the program was finally turning the corner.
At least one college football pundit thinks they are. Sporting News' Bill Bender released his predictions for the 2019 season today, and he has Texas in the College Football Playoff.
Bender has the Longhorns facing defending national champion Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. Though he picks the Tigers to win that game, most Texas fans would sign up for a playoff berth regardless of result.
Making the playoff would mean Texas won the Big 12 Championship Game and went at least 11-1 in the regular season.
In addition to their usual Big 12 slate, the Longhorns will play LSU in Week Two in one of the top non-conference matchups of the season. There could definitely be some playoff implications in that game, as the Tigers are also expected to be a preseason top 10 team.
Texas opens up its 2019 season against Louisiana Tech on August 31.
