A pair of Texas defensive backs announced they are transferring from the program. One of those players is a former four-star cornerback recruit.

Eric Cuffee, a four-star cornerback prospect in the 2016 class, announced his decision to transfer this afternoon. Cuffee was entering his third year with the program but had not appeared in a game.

Joining Cuffee in transferring out of UT is safety John Bonney, who played in 37 games during his four years in Austin.

Cuffee released a full statement regarding his decision to transfer. He also announced his new destination. Cuffee will go the junior college route, enrolling at Trinity Valley Community College for the upcoming school year.

Texas will open its 2018 season on the road at Maryland on Sept. 1. Kickoff is set for noon ET on FS1.

The Longhorns lost their season opener at home to the Terrapins in 2017, so they'll be looking for some revenge when they head East in a couple of weeks.
