Report: Texas' Charlie Strong Strips DC Vance Bedford Of Play-Calling Duties

Texas head coach Charlie Strong is making a change defensively, according to a new report.

Per Orangebloods.com's Geoff Ketchum, Strong has stripped defensive coordinator Vance Bedford of his play-calling duties and control of the defense. This move comes on the heels of Texas' 49-31 loss to Oklahoma State, the third time in four games the Longhorns have given up 47 or more points.

Texas (2-2) has now lost two straight games. Bedford and Strong have worked together since 2010. He was Strong's defensive coordinator at Louisville before joining him in Texas. The two are tight, but Strong appeared to give Bedford an earful on the sideline yesterday.

Rumors have swirled about Strong's job status. Reportedly, he is at least safe through the end of this season. If Ketchum's report is true, it looks like the kind of move a coach makes when he knows his job is on the line.

Strong is 13-16 in two-plus seasons in Austin. The stakes will be high in next weekend's Red River Shootout against 2-2 Oklahoma.
