Tom Herman may have some work to do on his staff in a few weeks. A few different Texas football assistants are reportedly candidates for lower-level head coaching jobs.
The Dukes lost Mike Houston to ECU earlier in the coaching carousel. Mehringer, who followed Tom Herman from Houston, was previously a member of Everett Withers’ staff at JMU.
Today, another Longhorns assistant is being considered for a job.
Stan Drayton, an experienced running backs coach with time spent at Ohio State, Florida, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Syracuse, and the NFL, is on Akron’s radar.
Bruce Feldman first reported the Stan Drayton-Akron news earlier today.

It is unclear if either Mehringer or Drayton is a front-runner for his respective opening, but either way, Tom Herman could be in for some reshuffling this off-season.
And so it goes for successful programs, and that is what Herman is building at Texas. The Longhorns are 9-4, with an appearance in the Big 12 title game and an upcoming Sugar Bowl date with Georgia.
