A week ago, it appeared that this contest between UCLA and Texas could be a very good one. The Bruins had a tough victory against Virginia in Week 1 while the Longhorns had little difficulty with North Texas. Not anymore, though.
UCLA scraped out another close win in Week 2 against Memphis, but Charlie Strong's program has taken a slide. With starting quarterback David Ash out with concussion-like symptoms, the Longhorns were blown out by BYU, 41-7. The 34-point margin of defeat was the most any Texas team has suffered at home since 1997, when the Longhorns were thrashed by UCLA, 66-3.

Prediction: This was a game pegged by many in the preseason as one of the top non-conference showdowns of the year. It almost surely won't live up to the hype. Texas looked incredibly poor against the Cougars. The offense, with Ash out, was expected to struggle, but giving up 41 points to BYU in Austin is nearly inexcusable for Texas' defense.
UCLA has struggled out of the gate in 2014, but Jim Mora Jr.'s program still possesses as much talent as most. With the Longhorns reeling, expect a big game from Heisman candidate Brett Hundley. The Bruins should cover the 7.5-point spread quite easily in this neutral-field game.
