The Texas Tech community is dealing with some horrible news on Monday morning. Former Red Raiders basketball star Andre Emmett has reportedly been shot and killed in Dallas.

Shams Charania of The Athletic was the first to officially report the news, though rumors were floating around social media all morning. Emmett's death is reportedly being treated as a murder.

Emmett played for two NBA franchises in his career - the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Jersey Nets. He was drafted No. 35 overall back in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Seattle Supersonics.

Emmett played in a number of leagues overseas. He also recently played in the Big 3. He was just 37 years old.

Charania reports that Emmett recently became a father. It's a heartbreaking situation.

Emmett was a star at Texas Tech, scoring over 20 points per game in his junior and senior seasons. He's regarded as one of the best players in school history.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Emmett's family and friends at this time.
