Last week, five-star guard RJ Hampton reclassified to the 2019 class. Top programs around the country already had interest in receiving his commitment, and this was before he became eligible to play college basketball next season.
Hampton’s father surprisingly announced that Duke won’t be on his son’s list of suitors as his recruitment process nears its conclusion.
With the Blue Devils officially out of the sweepstakes for Hampton, it appears a favorite has emerged for the Texas native.
Evan Daniels of 247Sports has released his prediction for the which team will land Hampton. He believes the Kansas Jayhawks makes the most sense for the Little Elm product.
The Jayhawks will undergo several changes to their starting lineup next season, but adding Hampton would make them one of the favorites to win the NCAA Tournament.
“It just seems like a good fit,” Daniels said about the 247Sports Crystal Ball pick. “Right now, my gut would be Kansas for RJ Hampton.”
“I think he fits perfectly [next to Dotson],” Daniels said. “RJ is a true combination guard, who can ball in his hands, or play off the ball. And he’s at his best playing next to a ball-handling guard.”
247Sports lists Hampton as the No. 6 overall recruit for the class of 2019.
Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, and Texas Tech are all in the running for his services. We’ll keep you updated on where Hampton decides to play college hoops.
