Twitter has become the medium that sports fans everywhere use to express their support or disapproval for their beloved teams and/or rivals. We’ve seen everything from Butler fans feeling betrayed by Brad Stevens to Duke fans trolling North Carolina after P.J. Hairston’s arrest. To put it simply — sports fans love Twitter.
With college football season right around the corner, Emory Sports Marketing Analytics is back in the news. We’ve already seen their study of which school has the best fan base in the country and today, Emory has released a new study on which state tweets the most about football.
Here’s a picture of their results:
The data is based off of the percentage of tweets that mention college football per state in the last six months. As you can see, the top five states are Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina and West Virginia.
With the first kick-off just under two months away, these results are bound to get people excited for football season and of course, start some more Twitter riots.
