Things change quickly when it comes to expansion. Nothing surprises us anymore. Earlier: It appears that all the chatter this off-season about potential Big 12 expansion was just that: idle chatter.According to USA Today's George Schroeder, the league's presidents are likely to announce they are putting off the idea of expansion for "several years" after a meeting today.

This is unwelcome news for schools like Houston, Cincinnati, UCF, BYU and others that were linked to the Big 12 as potential expansion targets. It also has to make you wonder about the future direction of the league.
