The big mystery in the always changing world of conference realignment has been what the old Big East will be renamed to. As part of the settlement between the football schools and the basketball schools, the basketball schools – the Catholic 7 – were granted the rights to the Big East name, leaving the football schools without a name.
The mystery was solved on Wednesday, when the conference announced that its name going forward would be the American Athletic Conference.
