With the Big East Tournament just days away, Creighton announces some tough injury news regarding star guard Marcus Zegarowski.
Zegarowski is dealing with a meniscus injury to his right knee, the Bluejays confirmed in a release moments ago. He is doubtful for Thursday’s Big East Tournament opener against either Georgetown or St. John’s.
Zegarowski did not practice with the team earlier today. He appeared to suffer the injury late in Saturday’s win over Seton Hall, which gave the Bluejays a share of the conference regular season title and earned them the top seed in this week’s league tourney.
This season, Zegarowski is second on the team in scoring with 16.1 points per game. He also leads Creighton in assists with 5.0 per contest.

The extent of Zegarowski’s injury is critical for Creighton’s chances not only this week but in the NCAA Tournament. With him, the Bluejays can win the Big East Tournament and potentially contend for a Final Four berth.
Without him, they have their work cut out for them. All won’t be lost, but Zegarowski is a crucial piece for this team to reach its ceiling.
Creighton’s Big East Tournament opener will be played Thursday at noon ET.
