Patrick Ewing is coming home.
Multiple outlets have reported that Georgetown has indeed hired the 54-year-old Ewing as its new head coach. The Hoya legend and NBA Hall of Famer takes over the reins from John Thompson III, who led the program for the last 13 seasons.

Ewing finished his illustrious playing career in 2002 and immediately jumped into coaching. He joined the NBA’s Washington Wizards as an assistant and has been on NBA staffs ever since.
Since 2013, Ewing has been the associate head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats. This will be his first head coaching endeavor.
Given the fact Ewing has never been a head coach before and has never even worked at the collegiate level at all, there are many who are doubting this move. I must admit, I’m skeptical of it as well.
Ewing will have to prove a quick study in navigating the rugged recruiting waters, and he must adjust to coaching younger, less polished players. His first major task is hiring a top-notch staff, filled with strong and proven recruiters.
If he does this, he’ll at least give himself a puncher’s chance to return his alma mater to glory.
