This college basketball season has been unpredictable, and the rankings will be getting a big shake-up after No. 1 Villanova and No. 2 Kansas both lost on the road tonight.
Earlier in the evening, the Jayhawks lost in Morgantown to a feisty, if enigmatic West Virginia squad 85-69.
WVU has been a thorn in the side of the Jayhawks since joining the Big 12 a few years ago.
Villanova's trip to Milwaukee was a bit more dramatic than WVU's blowout victory over KU, but the Wildcats could not outlast Marquette, falling 74-72. Nova got a decent look at the end of the game, but Jalen Brunson couldn't finish at the rim. After the game, Marquette fans absolutely mobbed the court.
With the two losses, No. 3 Gonzaga could make the big jump up to No. 1. The Bulldogs are third in both polls, with a handful of No. 1 votes between the two already. Kentucky and Baylor are No. 4 and No. 5 respectively in both the AP and Coaches Polls, and could conceivably jump Gonzaga, depending on how the voters feel about moving a WCC to the top of the rankings.
