Marquette Assistant Travis Diener Leaves Program To Play Professionally In Italy

Travis Diener is not ready to give up his playing career.

The 34-year-old former Marquette star is giving up his gig as the director of player personnel at his alma mater to play for Vanoli Cremona in Italy.

Diener spent four seasons in Italy with Dinamo Sassari from 2010-14 after playing six season in the NBA with the Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers and Portland Trail Blazers.

Diener's cousin Drake also plays for Vanoli Cremona, so we'd have to think family played some role in this decision.

Diener won an Italian Cup title and MVP award in 2014, and was named a Serie A All-Star in 2011 and 2012.

Cremona is in the second tier of Italian professional basketball, but hopefully Diener still has some gas left in his tank.
