Illinois has found its next head coach.
According to multiple reports, Oklahoma State head coach Brad Underwood will be leaving Stillwater to become the next head coach at Illinois. Underwood, who coached the Cowboys for just one season, will take over for John Groce, who led the program from 2012 until 2017. Underwood previously coached at Stephen F. Austin, leading the program to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
Gary Parrish of CBS Sports suggests that Underwood was "vastly" underpaid at Oklahoma State. Details of Underwood's new contract with the Illini have not been disclosed just yet.
Underwood, this past season, led Oklahoma State to a 20-13 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Illinois, meanwhile, is coming off of an underwhelming 18-14 season.
Update: It's official. Illinois AD Josh Whitman has tweeted the news.
The Illini have not reached the NCAA Tournament since 2013.
