Illinois Fires Athletic Director Mike Thomas

It's been a tough year for Illinois' athletic department. Back in August, the school fired football coach Tim Beckman, one week before the season was to begin, after allegations of improper treatment of student-athletes. Now, just one month before of the end of the season, the university has cut ties with athletic director Mike Thomas.

It's important to note that Illinois' investigation into the alleged mistreatment of football players did not find any misconduct by Thomas. But, as ESPN's Brian Bennett notes, the school felt that a change needed to be made.
