With college football’s Week 8 in the books, Kirk Herbstreit has unveiled his top six teams of the week. To no surprise at all, Illinois tops the list.
All-in-all, Hebstreit’s top 6 teams includes two teams from Big Ten and the Pac-12, one team from SEC and an Independent school.
Here’s Herbstreit’s top teams of week 8:
- Penn State
Illinois checks in at No. 1 after pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the year on Saturday. The Fighting Illini beat No. 6 Wisconsin after kicking a game-winning field goal as time expired. Wisconsin entered Saturday’s game as a 30.5-point favorite.
Oregon came back in a thrilling 35-31 victory over Washington on the road in Seattle. The Ducks were down 28-14 in the third quarter, but outscored the Huskies 21-3 over the final 24 minutes to come out on top. Quarterback Justin Herbert threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns, and quite possibly pulled off the biggest win of his career.
Next, Penn State falls at No. 3 after beating Michigan on Saturday night. The Nittany Lions pulled off their biggest win of the season, taking down the Wolverines 28-21. PSU is undefeated at 7-0.

Herbstreit’s fourth team is the BYU Cougars, who knocked off Boise State in Provo. The Cougars converted a fourth-and-short with little time remaining to seal the victory, and potentially saved Kalani Sitake’s job for the time being.
Utah (5) and Florida (6) round out the rest of the list. The Utes beat Arizona State 21-3 in a pivotal Pac-12 South Division clash. Florida took care of business in a 38-27 win over South Carolina.
