New Illinois Athletic Director Josh Whitman Fires Head Coach Bill Cubit

No one expected Bill Cubit's tenure at Illinois to be a long term arrangement. He inherited the job after Tim Beckman's dismissal a week before the 2015 season, amid multipleallegations within the program and the athletic department. Cubit was retained to lead the Illini in 2016, but new athletic director Josh Whitman, who recently took over at his alma mater, just ended that arrangement.
