Earlier this year, the Iowa Hawkeyes received devastating news that former running back Damon Bullock passed away in a car crash. In one of the classier gestures we'll see this year, the program has found a way to honor him for the season opener.

Iowa opens the season at home against Miami (Ohio). The crowd should be rocking as they've been waiting months to watch their team in action.

The Hawkeyes should have the edge over the Redhawks from their talent gap alone, but they'll also have some inspiration on their side.

On Saturday, the Hawkeyes will honor Bullock with a DB5 decal on the back of their helmets. It's a classy move from the program to show that he'll always be in their thoughts.

The team announced this new addition to their helmets on Twitter.

Check it out:

Damon Bullock spent four years at Iowa, finishing his career with 290 carries for 1,074 rushing yards and four touchdowns. He was also dynamic in the passing game, totaling 71 receptions for 616 yards and a touchdown.

There's no telling if the Hawkeyes will keep the decals on their helmets for the entire season, but it'd be sweet if they did.

Kickoff for Iowa's season opener is at 7:30 p.m. ET from Kinnick Stadium.
